This wondefrul pair of opera glasses measure approximately 3 5/8 inches or 93 mm across the front lenses by just under 1 1/4 inches or 31mm wide and are 2 inches or 51 mm deep when they are fully extended, they have an articulated handle on the side that measures approximately 4 3/8 inches or 112 mm in length when closed and is 7 inches or 178 mm in length whet it is fully extended. The opera glasses are made from gilt or gold plated brass that has been superbly decorated on the outside of each lens and the top of the outer handle with white guilloche enamel that has also been hand enamel decorated with green and pink foliate bands either side of a ring of roses, the eye pieces, screw cover, lower handle and central mechanism finger grip are all delightfully made from mother of pearl and the front bar has been engraved with a previous owners initial h.

I have not found any makers or retail marks and to be honest this surprises me as the quality of these glasses is outstanding, i estimate that these opera glasses were either made in farnce or england and date to circa 1890 1910. The condition is almost mint with no chips to the enamel or the mother of pearl, no dents, no splits, no cracks, no holes and no repairs that i can find, the side handle and mechanism both extend and retract with ease and are both working perfectly, the lenses are clear although as these opera glasses are a used antique they do have some very minor wear along with the signs of age as well as a patina that is to be expected and a gentle clean would not go amiss.

Personally i think that this wonderful pair of opera glasses can still be used today and that the overall condition is out of this world considering that they are over 100 years old.
